Grunge + Punk? Would it be cool?
My two favorite bands are Nirvana and Green Day, I like Nirvana and the whole grunge stuff more, I prefer to wake up in the morning and put on whatever lying around rather than put on eyeliner but I still like Green Day as my #2 band, I’ve got every album from both bands. Lately, I’ve been writing at least 3 songs a day, up to about 10 on a good day and that’s not even adding all the ideas I get for songs throughout the day. I’ve played guitar since 6th grade, never really took it seriously though, I just listened to music. 7th grade was like 6th but If it was there when I was watching’ TV or something I’d pick it up and play around with it. It was only when I got arrested at the end of 7th and my parents grounded me for 2 weeks so I spent those 2 weeks playing guitar everyday for maybe a half hour or so. Also, during the groundation I met up with this girl who also played guitar and constantly wrote songs and poems, we really got along, depressed and angry about a lot of things so I really got into music after hanging out with her for a while. A month before 8th grade started this year, I’d wake up and play guitar for an hour then go out and hang out with my friends, come back and play for another hour. Now that 8th started I’m inside playing guitar most of the times and when I do go out I bring a pencil and a sheet of paper and my guitar on my back. Like 4 hours a day now. I’ve seriously been thinking of making a band lately and I remember telling my friend who likes the idea "Dude, how fucking cool do you think it’d be, if like we combined the fast paced, loud, repetitive powerchords of punk with the awesome, distorted, feedbacky shit of 90’s grunge? Man, I think that’d be fucking awesome. If I make a band you want in?" He said yeah. I know grunge is already kind of like punk but what if we just take punk and put grunge over it if you know what I mean.
Yeah just at a constant high speed and really repetitive, I like to play Nirvana stuff, not that repetitive as Billie Joe’s guitar work

Green Day is NOT punk. Try The Misfits, Circle Jerks, Black Flag, The Casualties.. Thats real punk.

wow. i didn’t know punk didn’t use distortion or feedbacky **** of 90’s grunge…. uhhh you make my brain hurt I understand you wanna create a whole look of a band before you actually start one and you have all this images of what it will look like and you got arrested like your idols and your such a lone wolf with your guitar on your back butt….. its all bullshit. you know it and so do I or else you wouldn’t need to seek internet approval to brag about your awesomeness. nothing personal dude. But what your saying is like I like ska like real big fish so lets take that cool reel big fish sound and combine it with no doubts early ska stuff you know but more ska and more horns it just doesnt make sense. green day is was and will always be ostracized by any credible punk band because they are pop your too young to understand but bands like greenday and nirvana are the original "punk" sell outs mtv yuppies. back in the 90’s people were furious that "their" music was being listened to by the exact same people that it made them different from. even kurt felt that way. good luck lemme know when you sound exactly like bullet for my butterfly.
p.s. grunge is a made up label by mtv just like alternative to give impressionable youth like you something to purchase. you have been had sir.
